NKU’s nationally recognized M.S. program in Industrial and Organizational Psychology prepares graduates to apply knowledge in IO psychology; findings from social, organizational, and cognitive science; and data-driven research methods to diverse organizational settings.  

The IO program is designed to prepare you for professional positions in human resources, occupational health, consumer psychology, organizational consulting, and human factors psychology or entry into doctoral programs. Graduates pursue specialized careers in recruitment and selection, training and development, job analysis, performance evaluation, leadership, employee engagement, work attitudes, diversity and inclusion, compensation analysis, talent management, strategic planning, organizational development, survey research, marketing analysis, human factors engineering, organizational consulting, and occupational health.  

NKU’s IO program has enabled graduates to pursue doctoral degrees in work psychology; human factors psychology; measurement and evaluation; education policy and measurement; public health; educational leadership; and industrial-organizational psychology at major research institutions.   

Over 215 graduates from 71 colleges and universities in 25 states and 8 international institutions have obtained their professional training in IO psychology from NKU.   

Our goal is to produce professionals who can apply IO psychology knowledge, scientific theory, and evidence-based methods to guide decision-making in organizations; conduct rigorous research in diverse applied settings; or pursue advanced study in doctoral programs.

  • Conference presentation: Graduate students present individual and collaborative research projects at local, regional, national, and international conferences with financial support provided by the University.
  • Internships: Graduate students gain applied work experience through internships sponsored by public and private sector organizations in the greater Cincinnati, OH / northern KY metropolitan region.  
  • Personal Mentor: Each incoming graduate student is assigned an individual mentor, an IO program graduate and career professional who provides guidance on graduate study, internships, career paths, and job market preparation.
